Masquerade at the Museum Returns for 2024 with new Grand Raffle
ERIE, Pa. The Erie Art Museum will host its second annual Masquerade at the Museum on Saturday, October 26th, from 7 pm 11 pm. This year's event includes multiple performances including live music by Danny and the Daddios and dance performances by Seiche Dance Collective and Mercyhurst Dance Department. Additional entertainment includes face-painted masquerade masks by Taradoodles, live drawings by Anthony Carson, the return of Spectral Tales in the Customs House with Stephanie Wincik, Tarot Card Readings, a 360-degree photo booth, and an interactive art experience with guest artist Qian Li.

ERIE, Pa. The Erie Art Museum is thrilled to announce our next main gallery exhibition, Summoning the Wind, a collection of works by Qian Li. Li draws from her upbringing in a Chinese coastal billage and her journey of raising a biracial family in the United States, and is deeply inspired by the delicate dance between opposing forces. Through painting, print, video, and installations, Qian Li explores the themes of different dichotomies; stasis and change, the private and the public, memory and lived experience. According to Li, "My creative vision often springs from the realm of dreams, infusing my narratives with a sense of mystery and fluidity across time."

Erie Art Museum to Benefit from Art Bridges Foundation Nationwide 'Access for All' Initiative to Reduce Barriers to Museum Visits
ERIE, Pa. - Art Bridges Foundation, the national arts nonprofit founded by philanthropist Alice Walton, announced today the launch of "Access for All," providing $40 million in funding to 64 museums nationwide. The initiative aims to increase access to museums across the country and foster engagement with local communities by covering the costs of free admission days and expanded free hours as well as programming, outreach, and community partnerships that together, will eliminate many common barriers to access.

Erie Art Museum Artist in Residence Ana Balcazar Features New Exhibition Entre Plantas y Mujeres
ERIE, Pa. - Entre Plantas y Mujeres will open July 13 in the Frenzel Gallery. An opening reception will take place at 6 pm with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a tour of the exhibition. The artist and curator, Ana Balcazar will debut a newly commissioned body of work, created during her residency at the Museum in response to the Museum's Collection. "We are thrilled to have Balcazar's premiere solo museum exhibition in the United States as our inaugural artist residency," states Laura Domencic, Executive Director of the Erie Art Museum. Entre Plantas y Mujeres(between plants and women) will feature both Balcazar's works and curated Museum Collection art pieces.

Erie Art Museum Features Kimberly Chapman Work in New Exhibition Eighty-Six Reasons For Asylum Admission
ERIE, Pa. - Eighty-Six Reasons For Asylum Admission opens at the Erie Art Museum on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022. The exhibition includes sculptures and paintings by Kimberly Chapman inspired by the West Virginia Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum's "Reasons for Admission" that inventoried preconditions for mental illness. Chapman is a full-time porcelain sculptor in Cleveland, Ohio and has been featured in several group and solo exhibitions across the state. Her work has also recently been featured in the 98th and 99th Nicole & Harry Martin Spring Show at the Erie Art Museum.

ERIE, Pa. - The Erie Art Museum opens a new exhibition on Thursday, July 21st, 2022. "Ole' Say Can WE See?" by artist Garry R. Bibbs begins on the Dana and Pete Zaphiris Family Patio with an outdoor sculpture, Humanity's High Hurdle. The exhibition continues inside the Museum in the Main Gallery, which will feature Bibbs' sculptures, 2D prints, and a video interview of the artist. A reception to celebrate the exhibition opening will be held from 5-8 pm. Light snacks, live music, and a cash bar will be available. July 31, 2017, Erie, PA- The Erie Art Museum offers the educational program, Second Sundays, every month. This free program features art on display in the Museum, a tour in the gallery, and a hands-on craft. The next program will take place on Sunday, August 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Participants will look carefully at the Museum's large folk art carousel. Then everyone is invited to make a bagpipe, a bassoon, (very effective yet simple using tubes and balloons) or a can-jo (a twanging instrument made from fishing line and a can). Then participants will work together to create short compositions which will be recorded by hip hop producer and beatmeister Naji Adamson. Adamson will work with participants to loop and layer their compositions to create a 21st century carousel soundtrack.  This program is must for anyone who loves deep grooves, wacky instruments, and steampunk flair!

Ancient Ink: Photographs by Mark Perrott Exhibit at Erie Art Museum
April 11, 2017, Erie, Pennsylvania – The exhibition ANCIENT INK by photographer Mark Perrott opens June 23, 2017 and will be on exhibit in the Erie Art Museum's Bacon Gallery through January 28, 2018. Mark Perrott has spent decades documenting the ever-expanding tribe of tattooed Americans. He made his first portraits at Island Avenue Tattoo in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1979, and since then has explored tattoo parlors all across America. In his current series, ANCIENT INK, Perrott turns his camera to the now increasing tribe of highly decorated, aging, and graying baby boomers. Through large scale (50"x50") photographs and accompanying interviews, Perrott introduces the viewer to dozens of individuals, including Brian, a retired steelworker and "ink addict" from the 1970s; Marge, a 74 year-old former Cleveland police officer; and Henry, an 87 year-old WWII era Navy veteran. "These subjects," Perrott says, "speak of resilience, loss, transformation, mystery, and the emancipation that sometimes comes with growing old."

The lecure in free and open to the public. Susan Shie is a feminist painter, social commentator, and quilt artist, who cares deeply about social justice. Her work reflects everything from events in her personal life, to broad issues like human rights, climate change, and world politics.  She is warm, down-to-earth, and promises to deliver a talk full of stories, wisdom, and the artist's role in speaking truth to power. Based in Wooster, Ohio, Shie has exhibited, presented, and taught nationally and internationally since 1986. She is one of the artists featured in Earth Stories, a traveling exhibit now on view at the Erie Art Museum, which showcases works from 24 contemporary international fiber artists, each inspired by issues of environmental concern.

December 29, 2016, Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Art Museum is pleased to present a new Bacon Gallery exhibition, Earth Stories. The show will run from January 20, 2017 through June 11, 2017. Earth Stories, a traveling textile exhibit juried by quilt historian Dr. Carolyn L. Mazloomi and curated by Leni Levenson Wiener of Studio Art Quilt Associates. Earth Stories showcases work from 24 contemporary international fiber artists, each inspired by issues of environmental concern. Employing a variety of techniques including painting, dyeing, drawing, photo transfer, patchwork, collage, and appliqué into compositions that range from abstract to figurative to graphic, these artists stitch stories of social, economic, and geopolitical significance. This exhibit celebrates stories of people and projects working to protect and restore natural lands and endangered species, increase sustainability through new approaches to agriculture and energy consumption, and otherwise improve the planet we live in.

November 9, 2015, Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Art Museum is pleased to present a new Main Gallery exhibition, Assembled Visions: Shelle Barron, Geoff Beadle, Fred Scruton, Terry McKelvey, on view in November 28 through March 26, 2016. Assembled Visions explores the creative process by bringing together the varied work of four regional artists: Shelle Barron, Geoffrey Beadle, Terry McKelvey and Fred Scruton. Rather than having a single 'Moment of Inspiration,' artists typically engage in a complex open-ended process, where a series of experiments and the aggregation of choices made produce an unexpected outcome.
