Erie Art Museum Gallery Night scheduled for March 11, 2016

March 2, 2016, Erie, PA - The Erie Art Museum is organizing the next Gallery Night, scheduled for Friday, March 11 from 7 until 10 p.m. A city-wide art gallery crawl through local, independent galleries and the Museum, participating Gallery Night venues will open their doors after-hours for visitors to get up close and personal with art and artists in a unique way. Each gallery offers a different experience, from artist meet & greets to wine samplings to live music, and visual art, featuring local, regional, and national artists. Admission is free to the public.

The Erie Art Museum will feature the following exhibits: Kids as Curators; Plenty: Mixed Media Paintings by Dan Schank; Dark Garden, an Installation by Linda Huey; Art of the Comic Book; Assembled Visions: Shelle Barron, Geoff Beadle, Fred Scruton, Terry McKelvey and First Class. Meet Dan Schank and Linda Huey in the galleries. There will be a ClaySpace pottery sale. Linda Huey will also have artwork for sale during Gallery Night. She is featuring ornate sculptures in addition to small, functional pottery. Studio Art Class demonstrations with the help of Pointe Foure Vintage Boutique will be happening in the Special Events Room.

Additionally, the Museum is presenting a members-only lecture by artist Linda Huey at 6:15 p.m. prior to Gallery Night. Museum members will get an inside look into Linda Huey's exhibit, Dark Garden while she offers behind-the-scenes detail on her work and inspiration. She will discuss her process and inspiration for the installation. This event is FREE for members only!

Erie Arts & Culture will be spearheading a live social media event during the March 11th Gallery Night.  Join in the event by hash tagging #vibranterie as you visit participating galleries. Featuring Joel Quiggle with his recent paintings, Honoring Influential Women & Their Voices. "Some may rank these women according to their accomplishments, the world-renowned Nobel Prize winner appearing to be the most significant. However, when we see the collection as a whole - mother, nurse, scientist, activist - we see them as they truly are: women who have devoted their lives to the betterment and development of society."

Introducing Billy by featured artist Caroline Walker. Her work involves canvas, bone china and fabric. Caroline lives and works in Cornwall, England and her work captures the essence of the personality of this handsome hare! Enjoy refreshments and pizza from Virgil's Plate.

Art preview and early sale of the Inaugural Art Auction with proceeds to benefit NPAA and PACA. The Art Auction fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 12.

Featured artist: Jeremy Tarr. Obsessed With Your Death is an installation series and limited edition book launch designed to create an experience that invites the viewers to use their own imagination to explore something incomprehensible.

Featuring driftwood art, decorative gourds, unique jewelry, wire art, water colors, and oil paintings. Meet the Artists Elizabeth Kelly with Birchwood Creek designs, Paul Hess of PHenergi Studios with unique clay creations, and Dianne McAdam and Jessica Garcia from Hippie Fabulous with hand knit designs. Refreshments will be served.

About the Erie Art Museum
The Erie Art Museum anchors downtown Erie's cultural and economic revitalization, occupying a group of restored mid-19th century commercial buildings and a modern, 'Green,' 10,500 square foot expansion.  The newly expanded Museum marks the first LEED-certified building in the region, soon to be complete with a planted rooftop.

The Museum maintains an ambitious program of changing exhibitions annually, embracing a wide range of subjects, both historical and contemporary and including folk art, contemporary craft, multi-disciplinary installations, community-based work, as well as traditional media.
