Mission:

Erie Gay News is published once monthly in print and as needed on the web (typically, articles are added most days of the week) as a source of news, events, information, support, and affirmation for Queer people, their friends, families, and supportive allies in the greater Erie, Pennsylvania, and surrounding areas. The print publication is ISSN 2159-1792, and the OCLC number is 694108900

Erie Gay News provides educational and news services to the Greater Erie Region’s LGBTQIA+ Community through events, along with the EGN website and print publication. The EGN has been a resource for news about Erie, Pennsylvania. This resource has served the lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, intersex, aces, and beyond broader community.

Erie Gay News began as a print publication and, over thirty years ago, soon developed a web presence. Our involvement in various events and organizations has provided insights into others' needs. Reporting on events has been a strong baseline for the EGN across the decades. Our non-profit work enables us to sustain our efforts and grow them in the future. Sponsoring activities and coordinating them increases our ability to improve the lives of our chosen family. We help coordinate Erie Gives events like the annual Warm Coats and Boots Drive, the Erie Queer Community Second Harvest Food Drive, and more. We refer people to Queer-friendly resources that serve their needs by actively maintaining a resource directory and responding to resource inquiries via phone, email, and other methods.

Submissions:

We welcome and encourage all readers to submit timely news, event notices, and relevant comments and opinions of interest to local Queer people and their allies for publication on our pages. We will consider for publication any non-fiction article, blurb, or illustration graphic that upholds this spirit. Please include your contact information with any item you submit. Our deadline is usually about the 15th of the month. Check the deadline/editorial calendar here.

Send your submissions by email or postal mail along with your name, your contact information, and how you wish to be credited for your submission (whether by full name, first name only, or not at all). Anonymously sent materials will be treated as suspect. Any contact information you send in with your submission will be kept in strict confidence and will never be used for any purpose other than to verify or discuss any needed changes to your submission. By submitting an item, you are granting permission to publish that item openly on this website and on the pages of our printed publication. Please send in only items that are original to you, are "public domain," or have been granted permission to publish on this website by the originator of that item.

We will not publish any material that promotes hatred or discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identification, race, religion, age, class, physical ability, or any other reason. We do not support the exploitation of minors.

About the Author

Michael Mahler Michael Kenton Mahler (He/Him) has been the editor of Erie Gay News since it was founded in December 1992. He is also a founding member of NWPA Pride Alliance. He serves on the Governor's Commission for LGBTQ Affairs and is active with Aging with Pride and the Erie County HIV Task Force. He became the first LGBTQ person to be fully out in May 1992 when appearing on local TV coverage. Michael currently works as a software developer for Erie Custom Computer Applications.
