Call for Entries - 94th Annual Spring Show at Erie Art Museum

February 14, 2017, Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Art Museum is pleased to announce the call for entries in the 94th Annual Spring Show. Juror for this year's Spring Show is photographer and video artist William Wegman. The Art Museum is pleased to partner with the Art Department of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania to bring Wegman to serve as Spring Show juror and to deliver a free, public lecture at EUP's Cole Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m.

Working in Los Angeles in the early 70s, William Wegman became a pioneer in the developing medium of video art and a key figure in what came to be known as West Coast Conceptual Art. His early works with his dog, a Weimaraner named Man Ray, and collaborations with a subsequent, ever-growing cast of Weimaraners, led to several decades of 20 x 24 Polaroid images; video and films for Saturday Night Live, Nickelodeon, and Sesame Street; a feature length film, The Hardly Boys in Hardly Gold, and commissions ranging from the Metropolitan Opera and Wallpaper Magazine to a cover for The New Yorker. Wegman has appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and with Jay Leno, The Colbert Report, and the David Letterman Show.

The Spring Show opens with a private preview and reception for the artists and members of the Erie Art Museum on Saturday, April 22, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at this time. The Spring Show will be open to the public on Sunday, April 23, at 1 p.m. The exhibition will close on Sunday, July 9.
