Groovalicious Carousel-Inspired Music Making Second Sunday, August 13, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

July 31, 2017, Erie, PA- The Erie Art Museum offers the educational program, Second Sundays, every month. This free program features art on display in the Museum, a tour in the gallery, and a hands-on craft. The next program will take place on Sunday, August 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Participants will look carefully at the Museum's large folk art carousel. Then everyone is invited to make a bagpipe, a bassoon, (very effective yet simple using tubes and balloons) or a can-jo (a twanging instrument made from fishing line and a can). Then participants will work together to create short compositions which will be recorded by hip hop producer and beatmeister Naji Adamson. Adamson will work with participants to loop and layer their compositions to create a 21st century carousel soundtrack.  This program is must for anyone who loves deep grooves, wacky instruments, and steampunk flair!

Second Sundays provides FREE admission to the Erie Art Museum from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with tours and exhibit-based art making from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. This program is supported by Erie Arts and Culture, Erie Insurance, and PA Cyber School. About the Erie Art Museum

The Erie Art Museum anchors downtown Erie's cultural and economic revitalization, occupying a group of restored mid-19th century commercial buildings tied together by a modern, 'green,' 10,500 square foot expansion. The new facility was the first LEED Gold certified building in Northwest Pennsylvania.

The Museum maintains an ambitious program of changing exhibitions annually, embracing a wide range of subjects, both historical and contemporary and including folk art, contemporary craft, multi-disciplinary installations, community-based work, as well as traditional media.

The Erie Art Museum also holds a collection of over 8,000 objects, which includes significant works in American ceramics, Tibetan painting, Indian bronzes, contemporary baskets, and a variety of other categories.

The Museum offers a wide range of education programs and artists' services including interdisciplinary and interactive school tours and a wide variety of classes for the community. Performing arts are showcased in the popular summer program, Highmark Mid Day Art Break, which presents a wide range of regional performers, and the popular annual three-day Erie Art Museum Blues & Jazz Festival, which presents outstanding national and international artists.
