Erie Art Museum Announces Upcoming Käthe Kollwitz Exhibition Marks of Resistance

Erie, PA The Erie Art Museum is excited to announce the exhibition MarksofResistance:KätheKollwitz Prints, which will be on view starting January 29, 2025. This special exhibition will showcase the powerful and important artwork of German printmaker Käthe (KEH-teh) Kollwitz (18671945). Kollwitz is well-known for her emotional artwork which speaks about serious issues like war, poverty, and grief and still resonates today.

Growing up in a progressive family, Kollwitz was influenced by her home life and her husband's work as a doctor serving working-class communities. She turned to printmaking for its accessibility and its ability to reach a wide audience to advocate for truth, peace, and social change. Some of her famous works, A

Weaver'sRevoltand War(EinWeberaufstand), tell the stories of working-class people and the harsh realities of revolutionary conflict. MarksofResistancewill also include enlargements of select works, inviting visitors to more closely examine the universal themes such as resilience, resistance, and empathy.
