Erie Art Museum Opens Future Memories, Video and Multimedia Art by John Eric Steiner

ERIE, Pa. - Future Memories, a new exhibit by multimedia artist John Eric Steiner, will be featured at the Erie Museum from Sept. 2, 2021 through Jan. 30, 2022.

With a series of installations with objects and videos that merge old and new media, Future Memories explores our complicated relationship with technology. Steiner pushes the limits of small analog and digital machines such as slide projectors, landline phones, and modern computers to examine the connections between sexuality, religion, and survival, in late capitalism. Spanning music, electronic media, sculpture, and design, his work reflects on modern life as we experience being the first generation of humans simultaneously on both sides of the camera.

Based in Los Angeles, Steiner recently exhibited at Mass MOCA and worked for the Arts, Culture, and Technology Program at MIT. A graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, he studied Film Production at University of California and holds a Master of Fine Arts from Lesley University. More information is available at johnericsteiner.com.

The opening of this exhibit coincides with the start of the Highmark Art After Dark music series at the Erie Art Museum. Highmark ART After DARK will take place on the first Thursday of the month, from Sept.

through April at 6-8 pm and will feature live music by Matty and the Pickles. David King will be presenting an artist talk at 5 pm.
