Erie Art Museum Brings Chautauqua Artist Work to Erie in New Exhibition

ERIE, Pa. - The Erie Art Museum will feature a new exhibition, Chautauqua Artists in Residence 2022, opening Aug. 25th, 2022. The exhibition includes select artists who participated in the Chautauqua School of Art residency program at the Chautauqua Institution in New York. The prestigious residency program presents the most contemporary artists, whose practices involve various media such as video, ceramics, fiber works, drawing, painting and more. Curated by Laura Domencic, Executive Director of the Erie Art Museum, this exhibition promises a display of the most cutting-edge art work in the country.

This exhibit starts an ongoing partnership between Erie Art Museum and Chautauqua Visual Arts. As neighbors, the focus of this partnership is to exhange ideas, collaborate, and encourage connections and experiences between our mutual communities. "I see our partnership growing by seeking funding, support, sharing our resources for collaborative experiences that connect the citizens of Erie and Chautauquans together," states Sharon Louden, Artistic Director of the Visual Arts program at The Chautauqua Institution, where the residency program is a centerpiece of the Chautauqua School of Arts.

Founded in 1909, the School is an incubator of inclusive and expansive programming in the visual arts composed of workshops and one-on-one time with mentors covering all media. This year, Chautauqua School of Art had the highest number of applicants in their history. The program is multi-generational: 38 artists are selected annually, and this year, the ages of the artists range from 21-74. Artists participate from all regions of the United States and abroad.

ChautauquaArtistsinResidence2022will be featured in the Museum's Holstein Gallery from Aug. 25th, 2022 through Jan. 22nd, 2023. The Museum thanks the Chautauqua Institution for their collaboration in developing this exhibition.
