Call To Action - Trans Youth Deserve Health Care Rally in Erie this Thursday!
This Thursday, April 3, at 7 PM, please join local advocates at State & 3rd in Erie, PA, in solidarity to call on UPMC Children's Hospital to stop targeting trans youth. From TransYOUniting: UPMC has decided to begin denying gender affirming medical healthcare for new minor patients at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP). Aging with Pride Erie Pursues Plans with the Persad Center's OWLS
Several months ago, Aging with Pride Erie was approached by the OWLS (Older Wiser Leaders) group from the Persad Center in Pittsburgh to discuss joint programming and activities in the future. Those plans are one step closer to fruition as the two groups met on March 2 to discuss social activities in Erie and in Pittsburgh for older LGBTQA+ adults. The OWLS have expressed an interest in traveling to Erie (in warmer weather) to meet and to enjoy activities that Erie offers: museums, restaurants, boat cruises, Presque Isle State Park, and other attractions. A committee of Aging with Pride members is now at work drafting several suggested activities for the Pittsburgh OWLS. The tentative date for this Aging with Pride/OWLS event in Erie is May 18. Likewise, the OWLS are looking at opportunities in the Pittsburgh area that would appeal to Aging with Pride members in Erie. This activity would occur later in the summer. There is great enthusiasm on the part of both organizations to collaborate on shared activities and programs. Members of both groups are familiar with Erie and Pittsburgh and are looking forward to building a strong partnership that enriches older LGBTQA+ people.

Sunnylands Gardens, David Hockney Exhibit, Prescott Preserve Hike Highlight Palm Springs Vacation
There's always something going on in the desert. That would be Palm Springs and the other cities in the Coachella Valley. Just 100 miles east of LA, there is so much to do. This trip was no exception. I love how the city is nestled in the desert with palm trees but with stunning views of the nearby snow capped mountains. There is nowhere else like it. Like Wilton Manors, Florida, it is a LGBTQ oasis. And they both have a Hunter's bar with great happy hours.

What you can do is sit quietly in the dark and watch the rest of the guests portray a nearly 60-year-old piece of gay history that's an alternately funny and emotional play about 9 men and the birthday party from hell."

Day of (No) Silence 2025: Amplifying LGBTQ+ Voices
For years, the GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) Day of Silence was a way for students and allies to bring attention to the silencing of LGBTQ+ voices. But in 2024, the movement took a bold new turn transforming its longstanding Day of Silence into the Day of (No) Silence. Instead of staying silent, participants are now encouraged to speak up, be loud, and take action against the increasing marginalization of LGBTQ+ individuals, especially transgender and nonbinary people. This year, the Day of (No) Silence falls on April 4, 2025, and it's all about making noise in the face of discrimination. GLSEN is calling on students, educators, and allies to raise awareness, share stories, and push for change.

The PTSD Experience
From Michael Kimmel of Life Beyond Therapy: In the world of psychology, PTSD post-traumatic stress disorder is how doctors describe the experience of recovering from trauma. Extremely traumatic, right?

STATEMENT: Cuts to HIV, STI, Hepatitis, and TB Prevention will Cost Lives, Jobs, and Money
The HIV community has heard that the Trump Administration may severely cut and possibly eliminate HIV programs and funding at CDC, including in the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP). Cuts to DHP would impact the work & viability of the entire National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). Such a dramatic reduction in and reorganization of resources would result in many new cases of HIV and increase the already large numbers of people with STIs. Doing so will result in thousands of new cases of HIV, open the way for babies to be born with HIV, and lead to shorter lives and fewer resources for many people, creating even more missed opportunities for good health through HIV prevention.
