The Spring Show is a juried art exhibition open to any and all artists living, working, or studying within 250 miles of the City of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Submissions can be made through the Museum website at www.erieartmuseum.org/spring-show. Limited space will be available for an in-person workshop, available to those who need assistance photographing and submitting their works on January 18, from 12 2 pm. More details on this workshop will be announced at a later date.
The Erie Art Museum, in partnership with the Penn West University at Edinboro Art Department, is excited to announce Keliy Anderson-Staley as the Spring Show juror.
Keliy Anderson-Staley is a 2022 Guggenheim Fellow, a 2008 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow and a 2013 George and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation Fellow. She has received additional project support from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, Puffin Foundation, and Houston Arts Alliance. She has been an artist-in-residence at Light Work in Syracuse, Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester and Aurora Photo Center in Indianapolis. She holds a BA from Hampshire College and an MFA from Hunter College. She is Professor of Photography | Video at the School of Art, University of Houston.
The Spring Show originated as the Art Club of Erie's "May Show." The inaugural exhibition was held in 1923 with the help of director emeritus and founder of the Art Club of Erie, Lovisa Card-Catlin. Throughout the first fifty years, submissions were limited to artists within a 75 mile radius. When former director John Vanco assumed the mantle of the then Erie Art Center, he renamed the exhibition to the "Spring Show" and expanded the artist call to a 250 mile radius, bringing in works and ideas from the regional powerhouses of Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Cleveland. He also sought out renowned art writers and curators to jury the Spring Show, building long lasting relationships with people like art critics Donald Kuspit and Marcia Tucker, and gallerist Ivan Karp, the art dealer who discovered Andy Warhol. Eventually, the EAM teamed up with Edinboro University (now Penn West University at Edinboro) and expanded the associated programming with Spring Show jurors to include art talks, workshops, and critiques.
The 102nd Annual Spring Show will open April 3, 2025.
