The report examines the problematic basis for these laws as well as their detriment to public health and the justice system.
BREAKING: VICTORY! NC Governor-Elect Roy Cooper Hits Crucial 10,000 Vote Margin; Game Over for McCrory
RALEIGH, N.C., Nov 30, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Equality North Carolina hailed Governor-Elect Roy Cooper's victory -- which crossed the crucial 10,000 vote mark today -- and called on Pat McCrory to concede in the North Carolina gubernatorial race immediately. With a stunning 66 percent of North Carolina voters reporting opposition to HB2 in exit polling, it's clear that HB2 cost McCrory his re-election bid. According to polling commissioned by HRC and ENC and performed by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, 57 percent of voters put HB2 as the top reason "not to vote for Pat McCrory" -- exceeding any other issue by 17 points. The latest tally shows McCrory 10,329 votes behind. Because Cooper has a 10,000 vote margin of victory, McCrory is no longer entitled to a recount paid for by taxpayers, but he may request one at his own expense.

And while the results were devastating, we hope to find solace by standing together for our core democratic principles. We reject hatred, and stand vigilant for those in our community who are vulnerable targets for this hatred." Crisis Contacts from Youth to The Trevor Project Surge Immediately Following Election

After a divisive campaign marked by threats of stripping LGBTQ rights, and arguably the most anti-LGBT political party platform in U.S. history, the Republicans took control of our congress and executive branch of government leading many to fear the worst. The potential impact among LGBTQ youth is particularly disturbing. After eight years of progressive policies that championed diversity and were supportive of LGBTQ people, many are highly concerned about their futures.

New York, New York--November 11, 2016 - This is the first Veterans' Day on which transgender service members serve openly, recognized by our government for their authentic selves and honored in the open, rather than in the shadows. We thank all transgender military personnel for their service to our country and our community. NCAVP Looks Toward Tomorrow and Beyond
November 10, 2016 - The last year has been challenging and heartbreaking for LGBTQ communities. We continued to see waves of anti-LGBTQ legislation pass in many states and cities across the country; we witnessed the horrific violence of the Pulse nightclub shooting, which claimed the lives of almost 50 LGBTQ people, most of whom were Latinx; and on the same day this country went to the polls to elect our next president, we learned of the homicide of Noony Norwood in Richmond, Virginia, marking the 23rd report of a homicide of a transgender or gender nonconforming person in 2016 and surpassing the tragic number of homicides that transgender and gender nonconforming communities experienced in 2015. We are still far from ending the discrimination and violence that LGBTQ communities- particularly LGBTQ communities of color, undocumented communities, incarcerated communities, and people with disabilities- experience every day in their workplaces, schools, relationships, and homes.

Harrisburg - November 9. 2016 – Ted Martin, Executive Director, Equality Pennsylvania gave this statement today in response to the presidential election results "Today's election result is a difficult blow to many in the LGBT community, women, and people of color. Many will see this as a backlash against the progress that we have made in the past decades. We know that LGBT Pennsylvanians are now fearful for their futures and their physical safety. Given the intense and often hateful rhetoric of the past several months we cannot blame them. However, the freedom to be who you are or to love whom you love is a fundamental American value and we will continue to work to protect that freedom. We know that we have bipartisan support for that fundamental value. Now is the time for unity, not fear and division.
