Erie Gives will take place on Tuesday, August 13, from midnight to midnight. This is a great day to help your favorite nonprofits. Last year, a record $8.2 million was donated to 492 nonprofits. The local LGBT nonprofits participating in this year's campaign are Compton's Table, Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE), Journey: Healing Together, The LGBT Community Endowment, and NW PA Pride Alliance.

LGBTQ+ Elders and Affirming Community Program on September 20
On September 20, approximately 70 people attended a workshop on the topic of "LGBTQ+ Elders and Affirming Community: A Film and Conversation for Erie's Future." The program was held at the Tom Ridge Environment Center and was sponsored by the LGBT Funds of the Erie Community Foundation, UPMC Western Behavioral Health, UPMC Health Plan, Mercyhurst University, Stairways Behavioral Health, Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC), and Saint Mary's Home of Erie.

Erie Community Continues to Give!

Erie Community Continues to Give!
This year's annual Erie Gives event was held on Tuesday, August 8, and while it had a rocky start due to some technical issues and a fire alarm near the end of the night, it was a good day for local nonprofits throughout the area. All told, $8,268,471 was raised, benefiting 493 local nonprofits. Among those who helped are the local Queer nonprofits listed below.

The Joseph Michael Kulka Jr. Scholarship - Deadline to Apply is May 15
Joseph Michael Kulka Jr., 28, was murdered in a gay hate crime on Feb. 11, 1982. He was a mental health counseling major, being the first in his extended family to graduate from college. A native of Sharpsville, Pa., he received his degree from Gannon and was devoted to those with learning disabilities. He worked at Sunland Center in Orlando at his death. He was energized when he was with his clients, making them number one in his life. In memory of Joseph's extraordinary gifts, a generous donor has established The Joseph M. Kulka Jr. Scholarship for Diversity Leadership through the LGBT Community Endowment of The Erie Community Foundation. In 2021, the Scholarship provides a one-time award of $2,000. It recognizes a graduating senior of any Erie County high school pursuing a four-year college program. The successful candidate must demonstrate that he/she has given of their personal lives to improve awareness and understanding of diversity in the Erie County community. The recipient need not be a member of any particular segment of society, but must demonstrate his/her history of leadership in this area with the expectation that their efforts will continue in college and adult life. Selection shall be made by the Scholarship Committee of the LGBT Community Endowment Fund, with ratification by Foundation leadership.
