2016 Afternoon for Equality Recap

from Dr. Will Koehler, LCSW, President of the Board

On Sunday, June 26th, over 100 people gathered for the Greater Erie Alliance for Equality's 6th Annual Afternoon for Equality. This year, the signature fundraiser for equality in Erie was held at the beautiful Sunset Inn, 1990 Lakeside Drive, Erie PA, with a special focus on celebrating pioneers in the local equality movement. LGBT Community Progress Awards and personalized letters of commendation from U.S. Senator Bob Casey were presented to community advocates Doris Cipolla and Harry Miller. Participants celebrated the work of GEAE over the past year and listened to a compelling talk from Peter Steward about growing up as a gay man in England in the '60s. An announcement was made regarding the up-coming opening of GEAE's center for equality, a place to conduct the organizations activities. GEAE's events coming up in the next few months were also announced.

We look forward to continuing to advance our mission to create a safe and welcoming community for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity through quality educational programs, service opportunities, and social events with the funds generated from this event. On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you again, to our wonderful donors for making our 6th Annual Afternoon for Equality the most successful event GEAE has ever had.
