PFLAG Ashtabula Picnic

from Mandi M. Lynch, Literary Director, PFLAG Ashtabula

PFLAG Ashtabula held their third annual family picnic on Saturday, July 16, at Geneva State Park.

The event was attended by people from three states, and was the group's most successful picnic yet. DJ Nrr Radio's Greg Mack was on hand, there were several raffle items, including baskets from The Coupon Queen of Unionville, PFLAG's Crisis Coordinator, Steven Stoltz, and several donated paintings from a local artist.

"This year's picnic was incredible," said PFLAG Ashtabula's director, Jayson Nadolny-Foster. "If you look around, you see the people who have supported us from the beginning. They understand the vision of who we are and why we're here." He then went on to confirm that this was their most successful picnic yet.

Another highlight of the picnic was a visit from Stoltz's parents. "I never thought they'd come," he said when they arrived. "I can't tell you what it means having them here to support us."

Other activities included Jasmine's Drag Race, where (mostly) willing contestants were grabbed from the audience and asked to sing for their lives. The winner, earning herself the title of Miss Gay PFLAG Ashtabula 2011, was EGN's own Michael Mahler.
