When his husband passes away, Remy Washington, a Black man, unexpectedly becomes the owner of a drive-in movie theater and the guardian of his late husband's straight, white teenage son, Pup.

Bound by their shared love for classic American monster movies, they form a warm and caring bond. Their relationship unravels when Remy learns that Pup and his friends have been bullying a gay classmate.

Through intertwining monologues and sharp dialogue, "Monsters of the American Cinema" explores fathers and sons, the ghosts of our pasts, and the monsters we face within ourselves.
