STATEMENT: Equality California on Speaker Pelosi's Announcement

WASHINGTON - Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, released the following statement from Executive Director Tony Hoang after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on the U.S. House floor Thursday that she will continue to represent San Francisco in Congress but will not seek re-election to Democratic Leadership:

"From her first floor speech in 1987 to today's, Speaker Pelosi has been an indefatigable champion for LGBTQ+ civil rights, reproductive freedom and the health and well-being of all Americans. She is, without question, the most effective Speaker in history, and we are eternally grateful for her service.

"Equality California will continue to stand with Speaker Pelosi, as she has stood with us, as long as she continues to serve in whatever capacity she chooses."
