GEAE's Afternoon for Equality on October 12

Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE)'s Afternoon for Equality helps empower GEAE to support the region's LGBTQ+ community and its allies through educational programs, social events, and service opportunities. These programs and events strengthen our voice, improve the quality of life in northwestern Pennsylvania, and propel us toward our mission to create a safe and welcoming community for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This year's Afternoon for Equality is Sunday, October 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hagen History Center, 356 W 6th St. The event features an open bar, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and music by the Stephen Trohoske Trio.

With significant shifts in the political and social spheres, these challenging and difficult times make it even more important for GEAE to fulfil its mission to provide LGBTQ+ competency training and educational outreach, including our new LGBTQ+ Speaker Series, to help ensure all members of the community are treated as equals. Support of GEAE allows training to occur across many sectors, allowing employers, employees, and individuals to understand the importance of and navigate through the vast challenges the LGBTQ+ community still faces, even after all the progress that has been made in recent years. Many people in the Erie area continue to meet health, safety, and education challenges. And these challenges will continue to grow as we may see substantial past victories in the court systems resurface for overruling.
