By Bobbie Fenno
Erie's LGBTQ+ nonprofits brought the queer power this Giving Day, each making meaningful gains for their missions and for our community. Here's how they did and a little about what each one brings to the table.
The LGBT Community Endowment
What They Do: Fueled by The Erie Community Foundation's LGBT Fund, this endowment provides grants and scholarships addressing systemic inequities, supporting LGBTQ+ education, youth services, and leadership. Over its 10 years, it has awarded ~$35K in grants and $12K+ in scholarships.
Erie Gives Day Results: Raised $25,800 - Every gift made continues to fuel ongoing support and long-term impact.
Compton's Table
What They Do: Named in honor of the 1966 Compton's Cafeteria uprising, Compton's Table builds safe, affirming spaces for queer youth and young adults, particularly through their "True North" independent living program.
Erie Gives Day Results: Raised $11,050 - A strong turnout for their vital work supporting youth empowerment.
Journey: Healing Together
What They Do: Focused on mindfulness and mental wellness, Journey: Healing Together offers therapeutic spaces for healing, especially for trauma and LGBTQ+ care.
Erie Gives Day Results: Raised $1,700 - A testament to community belief in mental health support.
NW PA Pride Alliance
What They Do: A vital community connector in Erie and Crawford counties, NW PA Pride Alliance hosts diverse events, including Pride on the Bay, Erie Pride Picnic, and other social events, but they are also part of Queer Community Gives Back events throughout the year. They are true champions of visibility and unity.
Erie Gives Day Results: Raised $5,050 - Thanks to strong social media engagement and community, their supporters showed up.
Erie Pride 365
What They Do: A grassroots organization dedicated to intersectional visibility and joy, Erie Pride 365 brings the community together-like via their Pride Block Party, centering Black and Brown queer voices, wellness, joy, and public health resources.
Erie Gives Day Results: Raised $3,350 - A newer pride organization, they plan to cultivate spaces where everyone belongs.
Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE)
What They Do: GEAE builds acceptance through educational programs, advocacy, and social support across Northwestern Pennsylvania.
Erie Gives Day Results: Raised $7,800 - This number reflects their deep-rooted community backing.
From foundational care and celebratory representation, Erie's LGBTQ+ nonprofits demonstrated resilience, creativity, and community-first impact. The LGBT Community Endowment continues to be a quiet force, investing in sustained, systemic transformation in the Erie region.
Erie Gives Day was more than just a fundraiser to these LGTBQ+ organizations and their supporters, it was a reminder that queer communities and their allies continue to show up and invest in one another, day in and day out.
