Mayor's LGBTQ+ Advisory Council meeting on Sep 6
by Michael Mahler
The Mayor's LGBTQ+ Advisory Council met on September 6. Tyler Titus and Michael Mahler provided an update on the Governor's PA Commission on LGBTQ Affairs, which had met the month before in Erie.
In late July, documentation was submitted to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to improve Erie's Municipal Quality Index (MEI) It is expected that because of the City of Erie passing the conversion therapy ban in June and other initiatives, that we will expect to see a rise in our score.
A logo was selected for the City of Erie's LGBTQ+ website, which incluses links to resources and info about council members.
Action teams were created to work in specific areas where there are gaps including health care, aging, youth/education, economic development, and diversity, equity & inclusion. Tentative coordinators were found for most of these action teams, and participation on action teams is encouraged for general community members.
The council will be nominating/appointing a president, vice president, and secretary. This will take place by electronic vote, and is expected to be finalized by the next meeting.
After discussing upcoming events and news, the next meeting of the advisory council was set for Thursday, November 7 at 1:30 PM.
