Washington, DC -- Just days after People For the American Way filed suit against the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Justice Department to force the agencies to release documents about reported actions they have taken to remove protections from LGBTQ people, HuffPost reported on a leaked memo showing that HUD plans to remove anti-discrimination language from its mission statement.

Washington, DC - March 21, 2018 --When questioned about a decision to remove HUD training materials involving equal access for transgender homeless people during a congressional committee hearing yesterday, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson expressed concerns about transgender people in homeless shelters, saying that some people were made uncomfortable by their presence.

January 10, 2018 - In response to the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing today on judicial nominees including Howard C. Nielson, Donald Trump's nominee for United States District Court Judge for the District of Utah, People For the American Way senior legislative counsel Paul Gordon issued the following statement: "At today's hearing, Howard Nielson did nothing to adequately address the enormous concerns that have been raised about his long record of extremism and contempt for the rule of law. This is particularly true with respect to the fears that were raised by his willingness to file a brief arguing that gay judges should be prevented from hearing cases about gay rights. All of these issues highlight profound concerns about Nielson's respect for the rule of law.

WASHINGTON DC - September 29, 2017 -Today, People For the American Way (PFAW) released a digital ad urging viewers to call their senators and demand that Jeff Mateer's nomination to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas be withdrawn. The ad features footage from a 2015  speech titled "The Church and Homosexuality" in which Mateer said transgender children are part of "Satan's plan" of "destruction." In addition, it includes video footage of far-right pastor Kevin Swanson advocating for the death penalty for gay people during a 2015 conference he organized and where Mateer agreed to speak.
