By now, everyone should have received a mailing from the U.S. Census Bureau to get counted. I have complicated feelings about the census.

December 1, 2017 - The National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) filed two amicus ("friend of the court") briefs in federal courts defending the rights of LGBT people, Asian Americans, and immigrants.  Those cases involve a claim of religious exemption to allow anti-LGBT discrimination in Colorado and a harsh anti-immigrant, anti-sanctuary city law in Texas SB4.

NEW YORK – For LGBTQ National Coming Out Day on October 11, emotionally moving new videos of Asian parents of LGBT children appeared as pop up ads on YouTube before viewers watch their favorite Chinese Soap Opera, Filipino comedy, Korean drama, Vietnamese talent show, or Bollywood movie. 

Congressional lawmaking is often likened to making sausage – stuffing casing with a mix of the real thing and mystery meat. Horse-trading and unrelated riders onerous to those who would support a good bill is a time-honored tradition.  The result is that Americans often pay a high price when laws are made. This time, the President has beat Congress to the punch.

September 5, 2017 - Today, the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) delivered 971 postcards from lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Asian Americans, South Asians, Southeast Asians, Pacific Islanders (APIs) and allies from across the country urging President Trump preserve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.   The program has helped thousands of LGBT API young people trying to work, study, and improve their lives in this country. The elimination of DACA till take away employment opportunities, educational opportunities, and even the slightest relief from fears of deportation.

It's a hard time to be part of our LGBTQ Asian Pacific Islander (API) community. As queer and  trans Asian Americans, South Asians, Southeast Asians, and Pacific Islanders, we are facing a moment of repression and rollbacks that we have not experienced since the Reagan years. In his first week in office, Donald Trump has already begun to implement the extremist campaign promises he ran on. We hold our Muslim members close as Mr. Trump enacts the promised Muslim ban. For 30 days, individuals from Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq and Iran will be banned from entering the U.S., simply because they live in a Muslim-majority country.

January 26, 2017 - The National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) blasted Mr. Trump's executive orders calling them "detrimental to the interest of the American public - immigrants and citizens alike," according to Glenn D. Magpantay, NQAPIA's Executive Director.
