City of Erie Fire Department Now Accepting Firefighter Applications

Erie, PA April 11, 2025 The City of Erie Fire Department is now accepting applications for the position of firefighter. This recruitment period is open from Friday, April 11, 2025, through Sunday, April 27, 2025. Interested candidates must submit their applications online at efd.erie.pa.us/recruitment.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Age: Must be at least 18 years old, and not older than 45, on the date of the civil service test
• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
• Education: High school diploma or GED
• Driver's License: Valid license required at the time of application
• Residency: Must establish residency within a 15-mile radius of Erie City Hall (626 State Street, Erie, PA 16501) within one year of hire

Additional Qualifications:

• EMT Certification: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania EMT-Basic certification or be actively enrolled in a course leading to certification prior to the date of hire
• Hepatitis B: Proof of vaccination or a titer test documenting immunity

Preference Points:

• Veterans: Eligible veterans may receive 10 additional points on the written exam, in accordance with Pennsylvania law

Merit-Based: Additional points may be awarded for the following:

• Firefighter I Certification: 2 points
• Firefighter II Certification: 2 points Erie Fire Department+2Erie Fire Department+2Erie Fire Department+2
• Residency within Erie city limits: 2 points
• Paramedic Certification: 1 point
• Five years of paid firefighter experience: 1 point

Testing Information:

• Written Examination: Candidates must pass the Comprehensive Examination Battery with Practical Skills Test (CEB-PST)
• Physical Agility Test: Candidates must pass the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT), administered by the City of Erie Civil Service Commission
