Enter to win The Old Man and the Queer: The Transformative Story of a Retired Mayor and the Barber Who Freed Him from Bigotry. To enter the contest, fill out the form below between Tuesday, December 24, and Tuesday, January 14.

This prize is a paperback copy of the newly published book, "The Old Man and the Queer". The sub-title is The Transformational Story of a Retired Mayor and the Barber Who Freed Him from Bigotry. Four will be available, each hand-signed by the authors with an individual message for each recipient.

The authors, Jeff Comerchero (The Old Man) and E.J. Radford tell the true story of their lives and a remarkable friendship, one that in today's society couldn't possibly exist. Yet it does. Comerchero is the 76-year-old retired 20-year Mayor and Council Member in the City of Temecula CA (pop. 120,000). He has been a moderately conservative Republican all his adult life. He has little tolerance for young people living any kind of alternative lifestyle. Through a quirk of fate, Comerchero and his 35-year-old son are given a gift of an afternoon at a men's hair spa. He sees his son getting a haircut by someone he found repulsive. The barber appeared to him to be about a 15-year-old boy, heavily tattooed and with multiple piercings. He said to himself, he would never let this barber touch him!

Later that evening, Comerchero felt awful about what he was thinking and feeling. He thought he had no biases, but now saw he was lying to himself. Likely out of guilt and some level of curiosity, he decided to book his next haircut appointment with the barber he discovered was Liz Radford. He did! He found that Liz was a 23-year-old biological female, who identified as non-binary and a lesbian. He loved the haircut, found the barber wasn't quite as offensive as first thought and went back again and again and again. After several haircuts, they forged a beautiful friendship based on acceptance, understanding, and mutual respect. It's been almost 3 and a half years since that first haircut and this unusual friendship continues to thrive and get stronger. It's gone from the impossible to the remarkable!

Good luck, but if you are not one of the winners, you can find "The Old Man and the Queer" on Amazon either searching or using the link, https://a.co/d/2H8W7dg.
