All-New Drag Competition Coming To Meadville

An all-new drag competition is coming to Meadville. Local drag queen Cherry Falwell is partnering with Travis Smith and the Meadville Council on the Arts for Who Wants To Be A Drag Star: Round One on November 16th. In each round, drag performers will showcase their individual talents and compete in an on-stage challenge. The winner of each round will advance to the spring finale.

Who Wants To Be A Drag Star is open to drag performers of any gender, 18 or older, at any skill level. "This is a space where newcomers can break into the local scene. Queens, kings, non-binary artists, gender non-conforming performers, we want to see it all," said Cherry Falwell, who is hosting the four-part series. "Whether it's the first time you've been on a stage or maybe you're just new to the area, this is a great way to showcase your art. We want to encourage individuality. There's no one right way to do drag, and hopefully, we get to see a lot of different points of view."

Two rotating drag artists will join Travis Smith to round out the judges panel. Local favorites Shea D'Heaux and Snarebear will be on the panel for the first round.

The Meadville Council on the Arts theater is located on the second floor of the historic Market House at 910 Market St. Doors open at 7pm and Showtime at 8 pm. Tickets are available through Eventbrite. For more information or to sign up to compete in round two in January, contact dragstarmeadville@gmail.com.
