Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer Memorial Blood Drive

Communities in Erie and Los Angeles urged to donate blood in memory of hero on his birthday

[ERIE, SEPT. 16, 2024] The American Red Cross will host a blood drive in Erie, Pennsylvania on Oct. 7, 2024, in memory of Ryan Clinkunbroomer, who was a Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy in California. Deputy Clinkunbroomer grew up visiting Erie, which is home to his grandmother's side of the family. The drive will take place on what would have been Clinkunbroomer's 32nd birthday. Another blood drive in Clinkunbroomer's honor will be held in Los Angeles on the same day.

Deputy Clinkunbroomer, a fourth-generation law enforcement officer, joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 2015. He is remembered as unwaveringly committed to his family and community. He enjoyed spending time in Erie with his relatives to go boating, fishing and kayaking.

Clinkunbroomer's family hopes members of the Erie community and local law enforcement will donate blood in his memory and honor his legacy of service.

"Our son loved to help others and give back to his community as a Deputy Sheriff," said Kim Clinkunbroomer, Deputy Clinkunbroomer's mother. "I can't get Ryan back, but I can give back and honor his legacy of helping his community."

Join the Clinkunbroomer family and the Red Cross to honor this hero and donate blood at the upcoming blood drive. As a thank-you, those who come to give blood or platelets Oct. 1-31, 2024, will receive a $10 Gift Card by email.

How to donate blood

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
