Erie Mayor Issues Proclamation Recognizing National Travel and Tourism Week
Erie, PA: In recognition of National Travel and Tourism Week, City of Erie Mayor Joseph Schember is issuing a special proclamation during his weekly press conference on Thursday, May 16 at City Hall. The proclamation emphasizes the pivotal role of the travel and tourism industry in fostering economic growth and enhancing community vitality within the City of Erie. National Travel and Tourism Week, observed this year from May 19 to May 25, annually celebrates the profound impact of travel on the nation's economy and society. National Travel and Tourism Week serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions of the travel industry to Erie's economy and quality of life.
Tourism is one of Pennsylvania's leading industries, contributing over $76 billion annually to the state's economy and supporting more than 486,000 jobs. In Erie County, tourism ranks as the third largest industry, generating more than $1 billion in visitor spending and providing employment to over 14,000 individuals annually. Christine Temple, VisitErie's Director of Communications, expressed gratitude to Mayor Schember and his administration for their ongoing support of Erie's tourism industry.
