New Gender-Neutral American Siri Voice in iOS 15.4

by Rex Apps

Apple continues to work on diversity and inclusion with the release of their 15.4 iOS operating system. One of the new features is a new option for the voice of Siri, Apple’s digital assistant.

Apple last year removed the default female voice that has been the voice of Siri. In iOS 14.5, three new voices were added, two of which were recorded by black actors. At the time, Apple said the voice options were "a continuation of Apple’s longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, and products and services that are designed to better reflect the diversity of the world we live in."

Apple confirmed the new voice, American 5, was recorded by a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

"We’re excited to introduce a new Siri voice for English speakers, giving users more options to choose a voice that speaks to them," Apple said in a statement. "Millions of people around the world rely on Siri every day to help get things done, so we work to make the experience feel as personalized as possible."

To choose the American five as the voice of your Siri, update your device to iOS 15.4. Go to Settings -> Siri & Search -> Siri Voice, then choose "American". You will now see you have five options under the Voice header instead of four.
