Human Rights Campaign on Verdict in Ahmaud Arbery Federal Hate Crime Trial

WASHINGTON, D.C. - February 22, 2022 - Today, a federal jury in Georgia found the three men convicted of killing Ahmaud Arbery guilty of committing hate crime and other charges. In response, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Nicole Cozier issued the following statement:

"Today, we are thinking of Ahmaud Arbery's family and loved ones, who have spent the last two years fighting for accountability. Thanks to them, Ahmaud's legacy will live on," said Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Nicole Cozier. "I hope that today's verdict sends a very clear message to everyone in this country and the world that Ahmaud's life mattered, and that in this case, our hate crimes statutes were able to create accountability for deadly actions fueled by racism. It is my hope that today's conviction drives us several steps closer to the day when we put an end to racism and racist violence."
