Erie County Public Library showcases LGBTQ+ History
Erie, PA - Two LGBTQ+ exhibits have arrived at Erie County Public Library. Blasco Memorial Library, 160 E Front St, Erie PA 16507, now features two historic exhibits documenting the history of our LGBTQ+ communities and their struggle for equality in the State of Pennsylvania.
Produced by the LGBT Center of Central PA, "The Long Road to LGBTQ+ Equality in Pennsylvania" is a traveling history exhibit that chronicles the efforts that activists have undertaken in Pennsylvania to achieve full equality for LGBTQ+ people. The exhibit debuted in February on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. The Blasco Memorial Library's display marks the exhibit's first stop in Erie County. Additional information about the exhibit and the LGBT Center of Central PA can be found: https://centralpalgbtcenter.org/thelongroad
Also on display at Blasco Memorial Library is The Erie LGBTQIA+ History Project created "A Look Back: A History of the LGBTQ+ Community in Erie." This exhibit documents the history and activism of LGBTQIA+ residents of Erie County. This exhibit premiered in June and has been displayed at two other locations in the city.
The local exhibit is supplemented by photo albums and archives from the Erie Gay News, which are on display in the Blasco Library's Heritage Room-a resource for county history.
Both exhibits are displayed through September 3rd, 2019.
