BREAKING GLASS EXAMINES ADULT LIFE WITH FESTIVAL-FAVORITE PINSKY
Philadelphia, PA, February 6, 2019--Breaking Glass is proud to announce the North American release of the saucy LGBTQ comedy-drama PINSKY from writer/director Amanda Lundquist. Pinsky follows a young Jewish Russian-American woman as she navigates life, love, her overbearing conservative grandmother, and standup comedy in a film that proves that, at the end of the day, "we're all fine, just not great". Pinsky will arrive on VOD on February 12 through iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and Vudu. The film will release on DVD February 26.
PINSKY held its world premiere at the Moscow International Film Festival, and went on to have a healthy festival life including screenings at Wicked Queer: 34th Annual Boston LGBT Film Festival, Vancouver Jewish Film Festival, Boston Jewish Film Festival, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Arpa International Film Festival, and the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival where it won Best Narrative Feature Film.
Filmmaker Magazine called the film an "impressive and lively debut" while the Journal Star praised the film as being "bitingly entertaining". Pinsky stars Rebecca Karpovsky ("Paint") in the titular role alongside international stage actress Larisa Popova, Alan Blumenfeld (Heroes), comedian Sam Jay, Ara Woland ("Welkome Home"), and Jacob Brandt.
Sophia Pinsky seems like a functioning adult. But when she loses her girlfriend, and, in the same day, her grandfather moves back in with her authoritarian Russian grandmother, Marina, everything she thought she'd escaped is waiting to welcome her back with open arms. Thrilled to have Sophia under her influence again, and obsessed with finding her a proper (male) partner, Marina conspires to marry her off to Trevor, a nice Jewish boy Sophia has known since they were in diapers. After the date with him is a dud, Sophia finds her way to a weekly open mic night, where, on a whim, she gets on stage and discovers there's actually an audience for her Queer-Russian-Jewish-American sense of humor. Everything comes to a head at the family Shabbat dinner when Sophia and Trevor try to humiliate Marina by pretending to have fallen for each other, unaware that Marina is planning her own announcement: that she is already dating someone new-Sophia's childhood rabbi-a revelation that pits Sophia and her grandmother against each other in a struggle to define loyalty and love
