When authors Omar Beretta and Bénédicte Rousseau met at a Shamanic workshop in 2015, they instantly connected over their views on social criticism, spirituality, and the Western world. Their shared curiosity about the effective possibility of enlightenment, not just the "quick fixes" that so many trendy New Age philosophies present, became the inspiration behind their novel, Shaman Express(May 31, 2018).
A provocative and deeply humorous novel, Shaman Expressexplores the dangers of pursuing enlightenment. Although they barely know each other, a depressed divorcée and a recovering addict – both at a crossroads in their lives – decide to embark together on a journey with the intention of writing a book on experiential shamanism. But spiritual retreats and self-help books haven't prepared them for what lies ahead. Moving between pastoral Italy, the rugged steppes of Siberia, and the crowded streets of Thailand, the story alternates between ordinary reality and shamanic non-ordinary reality, the borders of which become blurred along the way. They may not find what they thought they sought, but they will be forever transformed.

Bénédicte Rousseau has a Master's degree in philosophy. After an unfulfilling corporate career, she quit her job and began travelling the world. She now is a student of the Foundation of Shamanic Studies, and is an active writer and explorer of diverse realities. Omar Beretta is a former lawyer, yoga instructor, and publishing company owner-turned world traveler and follower of Shamanism. After a near-death experience, he left his corporate careers to practice yoga, ayurvedic medicine, and Shamanism. Now a full-time world traveler, Beretta devotes his relishes in living with and learning from people in countries not yet spoilt by Western capitalism, and indigenous communities.
