Pride Fund Endorses Elizabeth Guzman, Kathy Tran, and Zack Wittkamp in Virginia HD-31, HD-42, and HD-94

LGBTQ PAC focused on gun reform makes 3 endorsements in Virginia's House of Delegates Races

Washington, D.C, July 13, 2017Pride Fund to End Gun Violence PAC – America's only national LGBTQ political organization solely focused on gun violence prevention – today announced its endorsement of Elizabeth Guzman for Virginia's HD-31, Kathy Tran in HD-42, and Zack Wittkamp in HD-94 House of Delegates election.

"As a social worker, Elizabeth Guzman has seen families torn apart from gun violence, and as a woman and immigrant, she knows what it's like to be marginalized. Elizabeth will be a strong advocate for safety and equality," said Jason Lindsay, Executive Director of Pride Fund. "Elizabeth's opponent, Scott Lingamfelter, is an NRA hack who has consistently received A ratings, and even won the NRA's Carter-Knight Award. Defeating him would be a huge win for gun violence prevention advocates," said Lindsay.

"I want to thank Pride Fund for endorsing my campaign for all hardworking Virginians in my district and the Commonwealth. I believe that commonsense gun safety reform should be a priority in Richmond, and that any victim of gun violence is a tragedy that should never be repeated. I am proud to stand up for equality and safety for the LGBTQ community, and the equality of all Virginians to achieve the American Dream," said Guzman.

"Pride Fund is excited to endorse Kathy Tran in House District 42, and is looking forward to supporting her in her fight for a welcoming, inclusive, and safe Virginia," said Lindsay. "Kathy's support for universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole, and restoring Virginia's "One-Handgun-a-Month" will make Virginia communities safer," added Lindsay.

"I'm honored to receive Pride Fund's endorsement in my campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates," said Tran. "At a time when so many of us feel vulnerable given the rise in hateful rhetoric, policy, and violence across the country, it is more important than ever to protect the progress we have made, and to continue to fight for LGBTQ equality and commonsense gun violence prevention measures at the state and local level. I will always stand for a welcoming, inclusive, and safe Virginia."

Zack Wittkamp is challenging Republican incumbent David Yancey in House District 94. "Yancey has a history of extreme pro-gun, anti-equality votes, and has consistently received high ratings from both the NRA, and the more extreme Virginia Citizens Defense League. Zack Wittkamp will be the fresh perspective that we need in the House of Delegates," Lindsay said.

"I'm proud to stand with Pride Fund to End Gun Violence," Wittkamp said. "We must work to keep harmful weapons out of the hands of criminals and those who would do our community harm, and we must take steps to enact and preserve protections for the LGBTQ community and others in all aspects of our society. I will be a fierce advocate for gun safety and the LGBTQ community."

Pride Fund's priority for this election cycle is to flip the Virginia House of Delegates from red to blue, by getting involved in a number of campaigns. "So far, we have made 11 Virginia state endorsements, and we're investing our time, energy, and resources to get these candidates elected. The majority of Virginians support commonsense gun safety and LGBTQ equality, so we're working day in and day out to elect leaders who do, too," Lindsay said.

Pride Fund has thoroughly reviewed the platform and records of these candidates to assess their commitment to protecting the rights of the LGBTQ community and improving the safety of all Virginians. Elizabeth, Kathy, and Zack represent the kinds of leaders we need, leaders who won't prioritize the special interests of the gun lobby over the safety of the American people.
