Trump DOJ/DOE transgender move: Equality Ohio responds

February 22, 2017 - In response to the Department of Justice and Department of Education's move this evening, Grant Stancliff, communications director of Equality Ohio issued the following statement:

The Trump administration rescinded best-practice advice informed by parents, transgender children, and years of study on health outcomes for transgender youth.

But let's get real: the administration cannot erase civil rights with a memo. Period. Transgender students are protected by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972. Full stop.

This administration is no friend of the LGBTQ community, and to make that point, they targeted transgender children.

Targeting children is uniquely without heart. It is a call to action for the LGBTQ community and its allies to take every action necessary to protect our most vulnerable.

To parents of transgender children: we will fight everyday for the right of your child to live, to learn, and to become the authentic person that they are.
