Keystone Progress endorses McGinty, Shapiro, DePasquale, and congressional and legislative candidates
Progressive organization gives "seal of approval" to candidates seeking to bolster their progressive bona fides, including Democrats, and a Green.
[READING, PA - September 15, 2016] – Keystone Progress announced its general election endorsements today, highlighted by the unanimous endorsements of statewide candidates Katie McGinty (U.S. Senate), Josh Shapiro (Attorney General) and Eugene DePasquale (Auditor General).
They also endorsed congressional candidates for the first time, including Joshua Burkholder (CD 4), Mary Ellen Balchunis (CD 7), Erin McClelland (CD 12) and Christina Hartman (CD 16).
The candidates were endorsed based on their support of the issue agenda of Keystone Progress, which includes supporting abortion rights, the right to organize, support of public schools, a clean environment and other progressive stands.
"We are thrilled to endorse these candidates who are running as bold progressives," said Michael Morrill, executive director of Keystone Progress. "These candidates are standing up for our working people by promising to protect our environment, our economy and our democracy."
Keystone Progress received applications from over 80 candidates. This was the first year that Republicans asked for the KP endorsement. None of the GOP applicants were endorsed.
This is the first time Keystone Progress endorsed a non-Democrat, Michael Bagdes-Canning, a Green candidate for state representative from Venango County.
