InterPride condemns attack on the Jerusalem Pride Parade

New York City, NY, USA - Thursday, June 30th, 2015 - InterPride, the International Association of Pride Organizers, condemns the horrific attack that occurred today at the Pride Parade in Jerusalem, where participants were stabbed by a religious extremist as the procession marched peacefully through the streets of the holy city.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing importance and relevance of Pride events around the world. Our members, through their hard work and diligence, ensure the visibility of the LGBT community and promote acceptance and equality everywhere with every Pride event held. Our community should not be made to live in fear, regardless of geographical location or religious and/or governmental policy or perception.

Our hearts go to the victims, their families and the entire LGBT community in Jerusalem and Israel. InterPride stands in solidarity with Jerusalem Open House, the organizer of the annual Pride celebration in the Israeli capital.

We acknowledge the attack has been met with condemnation from Israeli authorities and hope that those people responsible are brought to justice immediately, and that this sort of atrocity is never repeated.
