Freedom to Marry Video Celebrates Victory and the Marriage Movement

Video rolled out at July 9 event with VP Biden and 1000+ movement leaders and supporters, celebrating successful conclusion of Freedom to Marry campaign

New York - July 15, 2015 – Today, as it begins the promised campaign wind-down having achieved its goal of winning marriage nationwide, Freedom to Marry released a video celebrating the victory and featuring some of the many people, milestones, and hard work that paved the way. The video can be viewed here: http://www.freedomtomarry.org/WeDidIt

"As the freedom to marry arrives in every part of the country, accompanied by joyful weddings, families helped, and communities flourishing, the story of how it happened will provide guidance and inspiration to other campaigns in the ongoing work of making America a more perfect union," said Evan Wolfson, founder and president of Freedom to Marry."It was the combination of the Constitution's promise, a decades-long movement, a successful strategy, and a tenacious campaign involving so many groups and individuals that led to this transformation and triumph. This beautiful video captures the moment and the meaning of this civil rights victory."

The video premiered at Freedom to Marry's Victory Celebration event last Thursday, July 9, where Vice President Joe Biden joined Wolfson and offered remarks that were a personal and powerful tribute to the Freedom to Marry campaign and the movement it spearheaded. Over 1,000 movement leaders and supporters attended, and the event included performances by Carly Rae Jepsen and Lena Hall. For footage and full remarks from VP Biden and Wolfson, click here.

Freedom to Marry will be closing down many of its operations by September 30 and will shut its doors completely in the following months.
