Frankel welcomes 'history-making' confirmation of Pa. physician general
HARRISBURG, June 9 – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, welcomed today's confirmation of Dr. Rachel Levine as Pennsylvania's physician general.
"This is a history-making Cabinet first for Pennsylvania, and I congratulate not only Dr. Levine but also Governor Tom Wolf for nominating her," said Frankel, co-chair of the legislature's LGBT Equality Caucus.
"By confirming Dr. Levine, the Senate has not only provided Pennsylvanians with a quality physician general – a majority of our state Senate has affirmed that being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender should not matter in employment. What should matter is whether the person will do a good job, and Dr. Levine will. I hope this bipartisan vote will show the way for a fair hearing and action on H.B. 300 and S.B. 300 once they are reintroduced – these bills have consistent 70 percent support among Pennsylvanians," Frankel said.
