When Jennifer Minski first began writing a business plan in March 2016, she had one simple goal in mind: bring something to Erie that she wished existed herself. "I've always loved to cook and bake and always wanted to own my own business," says Minski. "We would go to gourmet popcorn stores when we were out of town, and I'd wish Erie would have one. So I decided to make it happen."

That dream became a reality on July 26, 2017, when PopLuck opened its doors. Nine years later, the locally owned gourmet popcorn shop has become a favorite destination for both Erie residents and visitors looking for a fun, flavorful snack.

Today, the woman-owned small business employs a staff of ten who create dozens of handcrafted gourmet popcorn flavors in small batches. One thing that keeps customers coming back is the ever-changing selection. In addition to favorite staple flavors, PopLuck features a different specialty flavor every day, ensuring there's always something new to discover. The shop also offers gift boxes, party favors, corporate gifts, and seasonal tins, making popcorn an easy choice for celebrations and holidays alike.

While the popcorn is certainly the star of the show, community involvement has always been an important part of PopLuck's mission. The business regularly participates in local events, including the Erie Zoo's Mane Event and the expERIEnce Children's Museum Street Soiree, and also offers fundraising opportunities that help schools, nonprofits, and community organizations raise money year-round.

That commitment extends to creating a welcoming environment for everyone. PopLuck proudly displays its Pride flag as a visible reminder that every customer is welcome. "Our Pride flag hangs year-round, not just during June," Minski says. "We are proud to serve anyone."

As part of their community support, PopLuck will host their special "Food for Thought" promotion on Erie Gives Day, benefiting the Erie Gay News community nonprofit. Simply stop by PopLuck on Tuesday, August 11, and mention Erie Gay News when you make your purchase. A portion of your sale will be donated to support EGN's nonprofit mission.

Over the years, PopLuck found out that gourmet popcorn appeals to just about everyone. Tourists frequently stop in while visiting Erie, and customers of every age enjoy sampling the shop's creative mix of sweet, savory, spicy, and seasonal flavors. The holiday season is extra busy. PopLuck prepares an expanded selection of festive gifts and collectible popcorn tins that have become popular traditions for many local families.
