A Knight to Remember: Queer Youth Prom Brings Joy and Connection

More than 60 queer and transgender youth and their allies gathered on Saturday, May 30th, for "A Knight to Remember: Queer Youth Prom", an evening dedicated to celebration, belonging, and community.

Organized by local advocates, Compton's Table, and Free Mom Hugs, the free event welcomed young people ages 15-19 for a night filled with laughter, friendship, and connection.

Upon arrival, prom-goers were greeted by volunteers from Free Mom Hugs and Aging with Pride, who offered a warm welcome and helped create an atmosphere of acceptance and affirmation. Throughout the evening, participants enjoyed interactive activity stations, including a photo area to capture memories, and an energized dance floor powered by a live DJ who kept the vibes going all night long.

Guests also enjoyed a mocktail bar, generously provided by Ties & Toasts, offering specialty drinks and a touch of elegance that enhanced the event's magical atmosphere.

Most importantly, A Knight to Remember created a space where young people could simply be themselves. In a world where many queer and trans youth continue to face barriers and isolation, the evening served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community, connection, and joy. The event delivered exactly what it promised: a knight to remember and a celebration of authenticity, friendship, and hope.
