Queer Horror Comedy Big Easy Queens Now Streaming on Hulu

Camp, Chaos, and Queer Resilience Collide in Advocate Originals' Glam-Horror Film Starring RuPaul's Drag Race Star Suzie Toot

LOS ANGELES (June 26, 2025) - Advocate Originals' Big Easy Queens, the award-winning queer cult film directed by Erynn Dalton and written by Robert Leleux, is now streaming on Hulu. The unapologetically queer horror comedy stars RuPaul's Drag Race fan favorite Suzie Toot, popular drag artist Miss Bouvèe, beloved Florida entertainer Jennifer McClain, American Idol alum Matthew Darren, Cuban-American actor Alexander Zenoz, and drag artist Varla Jean Merman. Watch the trailer on the film's website here.

Set in New Orleans and filmed in Fort Lauderdale, the film blends camp, noir, horror, and high-drama drag into a blood-spattered love letter to queer resilience and resistance. The feature was shot in 2022 during the height of Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law and anti-drag legislation.

"The original plan was to film in Louisiana, but we quickly realized we had a rare opportunity to actively push back on these laws by making the film in a place that was actively trying to deny the rights of those in Florida's LGBTQ community. You don't like drag? Well, now there are drag queens strutting in the streets of Fort Lauderdale with a film crew in tow. It was a joyful experience for all of us," says Erynn Dalton, Director of Big Easy Queens.

Big Easy Queens is 80 minutes of pure queer horror comedy featuring original musical numbers, voodoo, zombies, and (of course) drag queens! Set in the steamy underworld of New Orleans, Big Easy Queens follows the Mob Queen of the Quarter, Minnie Bouvèe (Miss Bouvèe), and her rivalry with her estranged sister, Mimi Bouvèe-Truve (Suzie Toot), and Minnie's arch-nemesis, Poodles Makenzie (Jennifer McClain). After Minnie has Poodles' crew brutally slaughtered, she braces for the blowback; what she doesn't expect, however, is to be stalked by a creepy masked figure who leaves behind bouquets of gardenias and terrifying notes. Is this Poodle's revenge? Or perhaps the work of Minnie's estranged sister, who stole her man (Matthew Darren) years ago and has suddenly reappeared in her life?

"Big Easy Queens is full of glitter, gore, and giggles, and every piece of this film and its creation is truly something special," said Mark Berryhill, CEO of equalpride, parent company of Advocate Originals. "Filming in Fort Lauderdale allowed us to confront the attempts to silence such a powerful and influential community, and stand firm in empowering its members. This feature is a part of a purposeful roster of Advocate Originals media that addresses the need for dynamic, inclusive representation in entertainment, and we couldn't be more proud of that."

Big Easy Queens was executive produced by Ray Thivierge and Matthew Darren. Additional film producers include Terry Hardacre, Swanson, Steven Evans, Rodney Tiedt, Rodney Turner, Kevin and Geric Frost, Don D'Arminio, and Marc Martorana.
