Three gay men grapple with life and relationships in Exteriors, premiering March 3
The highly anticipated film Exteriors will premiere on Gay Binge TV on March 3, 2025. Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mark Schwab, the film masterfully weaves together three interconnected stories of modern relationships, exploring themes of love, obsession, and reconnection. Through the lens of coincidence and connection, Exteriors delivers a poignant and captivating exploration of human emotions.
The film follows Wyatt, Jason, and Peter, three gay men grappling with life-changing emotional journeys. Wyatt faces a painful dilemma when his best friend Logan unknowingly falls for his ex-boyfriend, testing the limits of loyalty and heartbreak. Jason, a pool cleaner, unexpectedly reunites with the man he fell for during a fleeting one-night stand eight years ago. Meanwhile, therapist Peter Lesh becomes dangerously obsessed with his client Lex, who shares that he's just met the love of his life. These seemingly random encounters form the foundation of a thought-provoking narrative that delves into the complexities of relationships with authenticity and emotional depth.
Schwab drew inspiration for Exteriors from Ryûsuke Hamaguchi's Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, a film that profoundly impacted him. Inspired by its focus on coincidence, Schwab crafted three distinct but interconnected narratives. The decision to revisit characters from his 2021 film Brotherly Lies was sparked by a conversation with his husband about world-building in cinema. Characters Shane, Kenny, and Lex return in supporting roles that catalyze key conflicts for Wyatt, Jason, and Peter, allowing audiences to witness the growthor regressionof these familiar figures.
The production embraced varied cinematography and pacing to give each story its own voice while maintaining a cohesive tone. Returning actors Pano Tsaklas, Fernando, and Jacob Betts were instrumental in bridging the world of Brotherly Lies with Exteriors. Betts described the process as playing in a "different book but with the same spine," a testament to Schwab's ability to blend familiarity with innovation.
A Bay Area-based filmmaker, Mark Schwab's most recent achievements include writing and directing the feature film Shadows in Mind and the upcoming LGBTQ comedy, Cutaways.
Central to Exteriors is the theme of coincidence, inviting viewers to ponder whether chance encounters are random or part of a larger, unseen design. While the film avoids delivering a singular message, it offers richly drawn characters and narratives that leave room for personal interpretation.
Exteriors won best LGBTQ Feature at the 2024 Poppy Jasper Film Festival. It is both a continuation of the world introduced in Brotherly Lies and a standalone film that can be enjoyed on its own. Brotherly Lies is also available for viewing on Gay Binge TV and Schwab emphasizes that audiences can experience the two films in any order, making Exteriors an exciting addition to his cinematic universe.
Exteriors is produced by Diamond in the Rough Films. It begins streaming on Gay Binge TV on March 3, 2025.
