Compton's Table: Empowering LGBTQ+ Youth
Erie Center for Arts & Technology (ECAT) - Erie, PA

Compton's Table, a local nonprofit, was launched in 2021 to combat social isolation that led to increased suicidality among LGBTQ+ youth. Learn from board members Wren Genua and Christina Salvia, who will present on the past, present, and future of Compton's Table.

Wren Genua (he/they) serves as the vice chair on the Compton's Table Board, where they are actively involved in all facets of the nonprofit. He co-runs group sessions, plans events, and works to create the best safe space possible for queer youth. They are a current undergraduate student at PennWest Edinboro pursuing their Social Work degree. After completing his bachelors, he plans to continue his education and by earning his master's degree. He began working in a social role to explore his passion for advocacy and social justice. In addition to their schooling and work at Compton's Table, they also work a retail job as well as partake in conducting queer-education training for companies around Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Christina Salvia (she/her), M.S., became involved with Compton's Table seven months ago after co-organizing the 2022 back to school shopping event. She currently serves as board Secretary, a position that allows her to have a hand in just about every aspect of our present and ongoing work. She holds a M.S. in Secondary Education, and presently works as an instructional designer and instructor of English at Mercyhurst University. At a time when queer and gender-expansive youth are being targeted both socially and politically, I feel privileged to give my time to advocacy and to helping build the community they deserve.
