As I Am: An exhibition of work by LGBTQIA+ youth in Erie to run Jan 19-Feb 24, deadline to submit is Jan 13

Penn State Erie, the Behrend College and Compton's Table are proud to present As I Am, an exhibition of artwork made by youth in our local LGBTQIA+ community.

Artists between the ages of 10 and 25 years old on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum are encouraged to submit their work. Specifically, we are looking for framed/frameable two-dimensional works (paintings, drawings, photographs, and collages), as well as brief films and videos for digital display. All scales and styles are welcome.

Because the exhibition will be displayed in a high-use hallway on Behrend's campus, three-dimensional works (sculptures, assemblages) cannot be accepted.

An opening reception for As I Am will be held on Thursday, January 19, and the show will remain visible through Friday, February 24. All work must be completed and received no later than Friday, January 13.

Interested artists can submit 1-3 digital images of their work to Professor Dan Schank at dcs35@psu.edu. Please include the title, materials, and dimensions of each piece you submit. Professor Schank will also accept physical artwork in the Penn State Behrend Art House (Room 101) throughout the first week of the Spring 2023 semester (January 9 through the 13th). Additional submissions can be left in the Humanities and Social Sciences office at Behrend in room #170 of Kochel.

The Penn State Erie Art House is located on Jordan Road, directly across the street from the Lilley Library.

Artists who cannot make it to Behrend's campus during these times are encouraged to contact Compton's Table to make other arrangements for submission: https://comptonstable.org/upcoming-events

We hope that this exhibition will reflect the creativity and innovation of our LGBTQIA+ youth, while offering a welcoming space for their self-expression.
