Logo announces grant initiative with LGBTQ community centers around the country
Raquel Willis set to host three-part 'Trans Youth Town Hall' special beginning March 29
New York, NY (March 22, 2022) - Ahead of International Transgender Day of Visibility, and amid the unprecedented political assaults on transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming youth in the United States, Logo today announced its MTV Entertainment Group Social Impact microgrant campaign for LGBTQ community centers nationwide in partnership with CenterLink, the world's largest LGBTQ community-based network.
The campaign, titled 'SEEN: Trans Youth Town Halls Everywhere,' will award $1,500 microgrants to 15 LGBTQ centers across the U.S., as well as $5,000 to nonprofit partner CenterLink for network distribution. Grant recipients include the Pride Center of Terre Haute in Indiana, Magic City Acceptance Center in Alabama, The Center: Naples Pride in Florida, Pride Center West Texas in Texas, and The Center Project in Missouri, all of which are located in states with active anti-trans bills. Each center will receive discussion guides developed in partnership with GSA Network to facilitate in-person screenings of 'Trans Youth Town Hall' in their communities.
As previously announced, Logo is set to air its 'Trans Youth Town Hall,' hosted and executive produced by Raquel Willis, activist and former executive editor of Out magazine. The special passes the mic to everyday trans and nonbinary youth, who share what brings them joy, the obstacles that stand in their way, and what we all can do about it. Their conversations are intercut with context from expert panelists, including ACLU lawyer Chase Strangio, who argued and won a landmark trans rights case in front of the Supreme Court; actress and activist Jen Richards, who appeared in Netflix's Disclosure and Tales of the City; and Dominique Morgan, executive director of The Okra Project and Black & Pink.
Each part of the special tackles a different topic: Sports & School (March 29 at 12pm ET / 9am PT), Health & Safety (March 30 at 12pm ET / 9am PT), and Representation & Identity, airing on Trans Day of Visibility (March 31 at 12pm ET / 9am PT).
