Pennsylvania Equality Project launches petition favoring Dr. Rachel Levine's Nomination to be Assistant Secretary of Health

We seek as many American voices in support of President Biden's nominee as possible.

President Joe Biden has nominated Dr. Rachel Levine, Pennsylvania's Secretary of Health to become the next Assistant Secretary of Health at the Department of Health and Human Services. Beyond her current position with the Wolf Administration, Secretary Levine also serves as the president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). She previously served as Physician General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Dr. Levine has managed the PA Department of Health's response to numerous crises including the opioid crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. She holds degrees from both Harvard College and Tulane University and has practiced medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center since 1993. Dr. Levine is eminently qualified to lead at the federal level in this new role.

The Pennsylvania Equality Project (PEP) has created a petition through Change.org calling on leaders of both parties in the US Senate to confirm Dr. Levine for this challenging position. The petition will provide people the opportunity to lend their support for Dr. Levine's confirmation and to share their thoughts with US Senators. Leaders from over 350 different organizations from across Pennsylvania and nationally signed a letter on behalf of their organizations and already delivered it to Senate staffers.  According to David Moore, President of PEP, "Dr. Rachel Levine is completely qualified for the position. She will make a remarkable addition to the Biden team. The US Senate should confirm her appointment based solely on her impeccable credentials." If she is confirmed by the Senate, she will make history by becoming the highest ranking transgender official in the federal government. PEP leadership will submit the petition to Senators shortly before her confirmation.
