Proud Haven Set to Have Major Fundraising Event on July 10

Pittsburgh, PA – Proud Haven, Pittsburgh's leading resource for shelter and support services for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) youth is hosting a brunch and silent auction at 5801 Video Lounge and Café in Shadyside on Sunday, July 10, 2016 beginning at 12:00pm. The event admission price is $25 which includes brunch, your first Bloody Mary or mimosa, and discounted drinks. The highlight of the afternoon consists of a silent auction that has a variety of items including a boxing glove signed by Sylvester Stallone, tickets to upcoming musicals, sports memorabilia, and autographed items from people like Cyndi Lauper and Antonio Brown! The event will also feature live entertainment from local sensation Jude Benedict.

Proud Haven's work focuses on the 39% of Allegheny County's homeless youth population who are under the age of 24 and identify themselves as a member of the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community.

These youth often become homeless due to family rejection, or flee a hostile/unsafe environment. Traditional shelters and other service providers are often unable to provide safety for them or address their specific needs related to sexuality or gender identity/expression, which causes the youth further harm and distress.

Proud Haven is creating outreach programs to provide support and resources to Pittsburgh's LGBTQ+ youth, which will soon be offered at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center (GLCC). The organization's general meetings are quarterly and open to all members of the community.

Conceived in 2012, Proud Haven's vision is to be a leading resource for shelter and support services that improve the quality of life for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) youth as well as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ population as a whole. Proud Haven is committed to advancing equality through its mission of providing a safe shelter for homeless LGBTQ+ youth in Pittsburgh. To learn more, please visit http://www.proudhaven.org.
