Sims: Councilmembers, NOW are right – 3 'Porngate' prosecutors must go

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 23 - State Rep. Brian Sims, D-Phila., today praised members of Philadelphia City Council and the Philadelphia chapter of the National Organization for Women for calling on District Attorney Seth Williams to remove three prosecutors in his office for their involvement in the state "Porngate" email scandal.

"As a civil rights attorney and a member of the LGBT community, I have been disgusted by the rampant bias shown by these emails, and I have zero confidence in any of these three assistant DAs to pursue justice on behalf of women or minorities after what we have learned," Sims said. "It's not enough to say it didn't happen in the DA's own office and send them off to some sensitivity training. 'We, the people' need to have trust in the prosecutors who represent us in court."

Sims thanked the women on City Council -- Cindy Bass, Maria Quinones-Sanchez, Marian Tasco, Blondell Reynolds Brown and Jannie Blackwell – for introducing a resolution calling on Williams to remove the three assistant DAs. Sims also thanked the four male councilmembers who have co-sponsored the resolution -- Bill Greenlee, Curtis Jones Jr., Wilson Goode Jr. and Kenyatta Johnson.

Sims said, "Constituents have asked me what they can do about this outrage. One way to make your voice heard is to sign Philadelphia NOW's online petition at http://bit.ly/1UdCpFk to restore trust in the DA's office by removing these three assistant DAs."
