By Michelle Betancourt

GGT Show at Urrarro Gallery

Erie, Pa – Urraro Gallery, 135 W 14th St, Erie PA, is hosting a public closing reception for GGT: Grrl Power, Gender Power, Trans Power art exhibit. on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 7-9 PM. This group exhibition of local emerging and established artists tackles the theme of gender discrimination and states of transgender. Gender oppression, like the undetectable chemical DDT, only comes to light after obvious sickness that results from its perpetuation. This show is designed to fight the blight of ignorance, bias and discrimination. The exhibit will run through July 18, 2015.

Urraro Gallery has been a mainstay of Erie's art scene for over 15 years and has implemented changes in management and business structure. Under the leadership of Jeff Urraro and a collective of young artists, entrepreneurs and arts managers, the gallery will focus on the art of Erie's emerging creative professionals. Urraro states: "This new direction supports our city's numerous passionate young creators that have the voice to reinvigorate our local cultural experience."

"GGT" is the second exhibition featured under the gallery's new structure. With the help of our participating artists, we are proud to present this body of work with the intent of challenging misconceptions and biases toward gender dichotomy. These artworks not only represent a voice that is not typically heard but also the voices of Erieites and their support of gender power and trans power. Featured artists include: Jenna Colby, Rachel Cunkelman, Carrie Ferguson, Ashley Garner, Mercy Maclay, Karley Miller, Josh Mitchel, Nathan Sulecki, and Michael Tkach.
