Million Hearts Expo: Be One in a Million
The Erie County Department of Health and American Heart Association are proud to host the inaugural Million Hearts Expo on Saturday July 18th from 9:00AM – 12:00PM at the Bayfront Convention Center, 1 Sassafras Pier.
Million Hearts is a national campaign launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prevent one million heart attacks from occurring by 2017.
Guest speakers include Captain Elijah Martin, Jr. and Bishop Larry Lee Thomas of the 100 Congregations for Million Hearts Initiative. Each will share powerful messages of how to engage faith based communities in heart disease prevention. Capt. Martin is a United States Public Health Service Commissioned Officer who serves as Pennsylvania's Regional Minority Health Consultant. Bishop Thomas is recognized as a faith-based leader throughout the state of Maryland and Washington, D.C. and is known for his Smoke-Free Holy Grounds Initiative.
Events of the day include a fitness wear fashion show sponsored by Macy's, healthy cooking demonstrations hosted by Giant Eagle, free massages and health screenings, yoga demonstrations, giveaways and much more!
Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death for both men and women in America, but education and outreach can help reverse the trend. Partners from LECOM Health, UPMC Hamot, Saint Vincent Hospital, Emergycare, Health South, and more will teach participants ways to improve their health and adopt a heart smart lifestyle.
The Million Hearts Expo is free and open to the public.
