PG&E Contributes $250K to NCLR's Groundbreaking Work

(San Francisco, CA, June 30, 2015)—Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has awarded the National Center for Lesbian Rights a $250,000 contribution as part of the utility company's long-standing commitment to LGBT workplace equality. The contribution comes on the heels of the NCLR's landmark U.S. Supreme Court marriage victory and will provide thousands of LGBT individuals with continued resources.

"PG&E has been our powerful and long-term partner in the fight for equality. We are thrilled to have them by our side as we continue to advocate for the LGBT community. The Supreme Court's decision marks a huge step forward for LGBT people and their families, but discrimination persists and legal barriers remain, so we will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people across the country," said NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell.

This contribution builds on PG&E's more than three-decade commitment to diversity within the company and across its supply chain. PG&E launched the nation's first LGBT employee resource group 30 years ago, was the first utility to actively recruit LGBT-owned enterprises in its supplier diversity program and was the first major company in to support the California "No on 8" Campaign in 2008.

"Diversity and building a culture of inclusion have long been top priorities for PG&E and we're honored to support the National Center for Lesbian Rights and its work to advance equality," said PG&E President Chris Johns.

Founded in 1977, NCLR is a national legal organization devoted to advancing LGBT justice and equality through litigation, public policy, and public education. Since its start, NCLR—which helps more than 5,000 people each year—has embraced every aspect of the diverse LGBT community through its work, recognizing that LGBT people and our families and communities come from many different backgrounds and face a wide range of issues.

In addition to helping win marriage nationally, NCLR has been at the forefront of almost every major LGBT issue across the country and continues to be a leader in securing LGBT equality for all.
